Toronto is a magnet for high-skilled tech workers under the Start-up Visa program

Toronto is a magnet for high-skilled tech workers under the Start-up Visa program. This program was instituted by the federal government to attract innovative talent from around the world and provide them with an opportunity to establish their own business in Canada. The Start-Up visa enables foreign entrepreneurs who are accepted into this program to have permanent residency status. This blog post will explore how Toronto has been successful as a welcoming place for immigrants and why it’s such a popular destination for tech workers through the Start-up Visa Program. Read on!

54,000 People

A study released by a leading commercial real estate firm reveals that Toronto is the magnet for attracting some of the brightest tech workers in North America.

In its 2021 Scoring Tech Talent report, CBRE again places Toronto high among the top cities for the tech sector. In just five years alone, it attracted 81,200 jobs and produced 26,338 degrees to prove this point – meaning that 54 thousand people have been drawn here because they want to be part of something special.

The Northern Ontario city of Sudbury did not make the list in CBRE’s 2021 Scoring Tech Talent report, but it is home to one “promising” company.
Pointing out that some Canadian cities are on their way up while others see a drop-off in talent attraction and job creation, Toronto was identified as having an edge for being able to attract top tech workers from all over North America.

Annual Ranking

Among the 50 North American cities in the annual ranking, Ottawa placed 10th, Vancouver 11th and Montreal once again came in at 16. The Waterloo region was ranked 21st, Calgary 28th, Quebec City 34th, and Edmonton 38th

Toronto is in the top 10 best markets for attracting and retaining talent from among all industries including technology. The city ranked third on their list with 81,200 tech jobs created between 2012-2016 along with 26,338 degrees produced during this period – meaning 54% more people were attracted here than left!

Amazon is hiring in Canada because it appreciates the country’s open-door policy and easy access to tech talent. They will hire 1,800 new employees this year alone for their retail and operations technology teams in Vancouver and Toronto. This means they are committed to integrating themselves into Canadian culture as well by developing relationships with local customers through large brick-and-term retailers such as Walmart or Costco – both of which have a presence on amazon’s website already.

Toronto is an international hub for technology and innovation

With a diverse population of over 2 million people, Toronto has recently emerged as one of North America’s most attractive destinations to find new talent in this business-friendly environment that offers affordable living costs with quality education opportunities. The report by CBRE Research set Toronto top among all other cities when measuring depth, vitality, and attractiveness factors.

The research arm of CBRE used 13 metrics to measure each market’s depth, vitality, and attractiveness to tech employers including the availability of talent (Toronto ranks first), quality labor forces (second), or gross operating costs(third). This modernized economic powerhouse currently fosters Canada’s third-largest GDP at USD 3 trillion per year while being ranked second.

Toronto is becoming a global hub for entrepreneurs, immigrants, and start-ups. This can be seen in the CBRE report which called Toronto’s “brain gain” the second largest migration of talent to an international city outside of Silicon Valley. The Start-up Visa Program has been designed to help entrepreneurs from around the world start their own business in Canada by creating a pathway to citizenship that includes no minimum investment requirement or net worth requirements and addresses barriers such as language skills and education credentials.

Start-up Visa makes Canada becoming a tech powerhouse

In 2017, Canada had the third-largest number of high-tech companies in the world with over 1,000 employees. With a population less than one-tenth that of the United States, this is an impressive statistic. Canada’s immigrant entrepreneurs are driving innovation and growth in these companies and fuelling Canadian dominance in tech sector jobs. In fact, recent data indicates that immigrants represent more than half of all workers at fast-growing Canadian technology firms.
This article will explore why immigrants have such a strong presence within our country’s booming tech industry and how they are shaping its future success thanks to the Start-up Visa program.

Canada’s Start-up companies

In the past few years, Canada has seen a major boom in immigrant-founded companies. These innovative entrepreneurs have been responsible for some of the country’s most successful tech ventures and are paving the way for Canadian dominance in this industry. In fact, as many as six out of ten new startups had an immigrant founder or co-founder. For example, success stories include Shopify (founded by Tobi Lütke), which is now worth $2 billion; Hootsuite (co-founded by Ryan Holmes); Wattpad (co-founded by Allen Lau). The benefits to Canada from these immigrants extend beyond their contributions to our economy: they’re also helping create jobs here at home and inspiring future generations.

Among the up-and-comers of the Canadian tech sector who have either just launched or are about to launch initial public offerings are Thinkific Labs Inc., Magnet Forensics Inc.,  Vendasta,  Axonify, Miovision, Dejero, Trusscore, Vidyard, and Intellijoint Surgical.

Canada is quickly becoming a world leader in the tech sector, fueled by immigration. Canadian companies are attracting growing numbers of entrepreneurs and scientists from across the globe to fuel innovation and global competitiveness. Start-up Visa immigration program is one of the main programs which brings new ventures into the country. In fact, immigrants have created over 10% of all startups in Canada since 2006. Immigrants contribute greatly to our country’s vibrant culture through entrepreneurship and leadership. It’s time for us to celebrate these accomplishments!
In 2016, Venture Deals reported that among venture-backed companies founded by Canadians with at least one immigrant founder (i) 43% had an immigrant as their CEO, (ii) 25% had at least one immigrant on their executive team; while 68% of Canadian VC firms said they were more likely than not interested in investing in an entrepreneur who is immigrants.

Start-up companies & Ontario province

In the “new economy” of Ontario, a senior venture capitalist says Canada’s open door to immigration is driving one of its greatest assets: tech companies. The province has become poised to rival America’s Silicon Valley as leaders in digital innovation due in large part to these flourishing businesses bringing unique ideas and new talent into their communities–and they aren’t stopping there!

The Conference Board of Canada announced last week that the country’s goal to maintain high levels of immigration during a pandemic is economically sound. They cited $50 billion in annual tax revenues as well as improvements to GDP and an increase in working-age people per retiree ratio if their plan goes into motion, giving Canadian citizens more opportunities for economic prosperity now and going forward.

Immigration & Economy Grow

Last week, the Conference Board of Canada released information about how maintaining current levels of immigration could help the economy grow at 44%. In addition, they mentioned how increased immigration would lead to higher rates among workers compared with retirees which would bring taxes up by 50% annually while also increasing revenue from Canadians who will be able to work longer before retirement thanks again largely due to this policy change.

Canada is turning itself into an attractive destination for tech start-ups by making it easier to get visas and having a larger pool of skilled workers. For instance, the Start-up Visa immigration program helps entrepreneurs who want to create their own companies in Canada.

Permanent Resident Status Portal & Virtual Landing

Canada is always changing the way it processes permanent residency applications. The latest developments are meant to help finalize your status as a Canadian permanent resident even faster, by streamlining all of the information that needs to be processed and applying for PR from one portal.

From virtual landing to a new permanent resident confirmation portal – Ever since COVID-19 many changes have been made. The newest development is a virtual landing process to make the permanent residency application more convenient and there are new features on the confirmation IRCC portal.

This year, IRCC is doing something new. They are bypassing the traditional in-person landing appointments to validate Confirmation of Permanent Residency (COPR) documents which would normally have been the final stage of the Permanent Resident process. Instead, they’re completing it without an interview face-to-face with immigration officers – and instead done virtually through video conference call technology!

IRCC now uses a new online permanent residence confirmation portal to confirm permanent resident status.

The new portal should help people who are in the process of applying for permanent residency by providing a more user-friendly interface. People will be able to upload relevant documents and check their application status at any time without having to go through complicated paperwork or worry about lost applications.

The newly launched PR card processing system is designed with convenience for applicants as its primary goal, which could make this phase of immigration an experience that many find less stressful than before!

The IRCC will send you a confirmation email when they are done reviewing your application. This is where the PR status-checking process starts, and it’s important to make sure all of those who need their account finalized can access that portal as well!

According to immigration law in Canada, once an applicant has been approved by Immigration Refugees And Citizenship Canada (IRCC), he or she receives notification via mail with instructions on how best to finalize his/her Permanent Resident Status.

Once IRCC approves your PR application they will send you (the principal applicant) an invitation to check if you want to use the PR confirmation portal to finalize your PR status. If you do want to use the portal, you will confirm email addresses for everyone who will need an account in the portal.

Once you’ve confirmed, IRCC will create an account in the portal for you and send you another email with a link to sign in to the portal. You can’t create an account yourself – IRCC does this for you after they’ve contacted you.

IRCC will set up profiles under the principal applicant’s account for anyone under 18 and any other dependents you chose to act on behalf of (as per the email addresses you provided in the first email).

In the portal, you will be able to access your proof of residency or citizenship status and use it before receiving your PR card.

Immigrant children grow up to outshine the overall population in the labour force

A recent Statistics Canada study that looked at data from tax files in 2018 found that immigrant children are twice as likely as Canadian children to come from low-income households, but in adulthood, more of them end up getting a post-secondary education, and their salaries are oftentimes greater.

Immigrants who arrive in Canada at an early age are statistically more likely to enroll in post-secondary education and make up the majority of 20-year-olds enrolled.

The study found that immigrant children are making more money than their Canadian counterparts. 25-year olds in the overall population had a median wage of about $29,700 per year but 25-year old immigrants admitted as children were earning an average of $30,300 each year – 13% higher than those who grew up here. For 30-year olds, it was even better news: the median wage overall was about $41,800, compared with $47,400 for 30-year-old immigrants admitted as children. In other words, immigrant children grew up to make about 13 percent more per year than the overall population.

The children of economic-class immigrants saw the highest rates of post-secondary participation and annual wages in adulthood. Canada’s Start-Up Visa program has been doing a great job at giving immigrants’ kids an opportunity to carve out their own path by giving opportunities for higher education, providing student loan forgiveness after five years, as well as improving access to startup financing opportunities through mentoring programs like StartupCampus Quebec!

The children of Economic Class immigrants are seeing some significant success when it comes to achieving educational attainment levels that can lead them towards entrepreneurship or other high-paying jobs later on in life thanks largely due to Canada’s Start-Up Visa Program which was created with this specific group in mind.

As Canada strives to stay competitive in the global economy, our country must value and embrace immigrants who are capable of contributing their skills. Economic-class migrants have high levels of human capital that can address many Canadian needs; they arrive with new perspectives, language abilities, or other important qualities that will help us grow as a nation.

Economic class immigrants are not just allowed but encouraged by Ottawa’s immigration policy because it is believed people like this have the ability when arriving on our shores to contribute immediately through skill sets that address needs we may otherwise be unable to meet domestically: including those sectors such as ICT where there is chronic.

Canada is a place of opportunity for immigrants. If you’re skilled and economically viable, the country welcomes your arrival with open arms as it has needs that can be met by newcomers like yourself. Canada’s supply and demand system gives priority to those who are young or middle-aged so if this sounds like something which may benefit you, make sure not to hesitate!

Immigrants with children are uniquely positioned to pass on their human capital characteristics which can be either advantageous or limiting depending on the economic class they belong to. The Canadian Startup Visa immigration program is a prime example of this, as it encourages entrepreneurs and innovators from around the world to develop start-ups in Canada by providing access visas for qualified individuals who intend to establish new companies that will generate jobs through innovation and technological advancements.

As such, immigrants have an important role in passing down knowledge about how best to acquire resources within a capitalist economy.

The Canadian government is hoping that one day, every great idea will have its start in Canada as they implement a “Start-Up” visa immigration program that provides qualified immigrant entrepreneurs with permanent residence status.

Canada is one of the best countries in the world to live and work in. With a robust economy, great healthcare system, low crime rate, and beautiful natural environment, it’s no wonder that so many people are coming here as immigrants! For those who want to come from another country through economic-class immigration programs, there are some very good options out there. Start-up Visa is one of the most popular ones. Our team has spent years developing strategies for international entrepreneurs who want to start their businesses in Canada.
