Valid COPR holders now can enter Canada as of June 21, 2021.

The day had finally come! After months of preparation, and waiting, our clients which hold COPR, can now start their journey in Canada.

Canada has lifted restrictions on entry from confirmed COPR holders as of June 21, 2021. The government of Canada made the announcement at 10 AM Eastern Standard Time (EST).

Three weeks ago, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that would allow those eligible to immigrate to Canada with the opportunity of expediting their travel into Canada, and finally, valid COPR holders can now enter the country.

A COPR is issued to those who have been approved by IRCC to immigrate to Canada. This means the individual has met IRCC’s program criteria, paid their fees and passed health, security, and criminality screenings. With a COPR, they can travel to Canada to begin their new life.

23,000 Confirmation of Permanent Residence has been issued since Canada introduced coronavirus travel restrictions in March 2020, according to Canadian government data. CORP holders have not been able to enter Canada since the COVID-19 travel restrictions were imposed by the government in March 2020.

The Canadian government noted that more information on when and how to obtain a new COPR will be posted shortly on IRCC’s website.

COPRs are valid for up to one year. They are tied to the applicant’s passport and their immigration medical examination. Many individuals have been unable to travel to Canada due to coronavirus disruptions or because they do not fall under one of Canada’s travel restrictions. This has caused their COPR to expire. They will not need to go through the immigration process again, however, they will need IRCC to reissue a new valid COPR to enable them to travel to Canada.

All COPR holders are going to need to follow Canada’s travel rules upon arrival, such as the quarantine requirement. The federal government also announced today, June 21, 2021, that those fully vaccinated will be exempt from this requirement.
